The finest Proprietary Red Pahlmeyer has ever produced! Cellar Selection. 95 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Proprietary Red Blend (15.2% alcohol) shows gorgeously sweet tannins that involve a voluptuously textured, full-bodied, stunningly rich wine with loads of blue, black and red fruits. It has the full fruit spectrum, terrific aromatics and a real opulence and richness. The freshness of the 2013 might even eclipse that of 2012, so this could be a 20-year wine in the making...Some new cuvées seem to have entered Pahlmeyer’s portfolio. I guess making two world-class red wines, their Merlot and Proprietary Red was just not enough of a challenge for Jayson Pahlmeyer!" 95 Points Antonio Galloni: "Blackberry jam, spices, cloves, menthol and licorice are some of the notes that meld together in the 2013 Proprietary Red. Expressive, layered and silky, the 2013 shows the more refined side of the vintage while maintaining considerable power and plenty of structure. Crushed rocks, lavender and blueberry jam meld into a finish that is both explosive and pliant." One of California’s super-star producers, Pahlmeyer’s wines have a fabulous track record of aging well. This estate was one of Helen Turley’s first clients, and since she departed one of her assistants, Erin Green, has continued to turn out sumptuous reds as well as exquisite Chardonnays.
Sipping Fine Wine
Blend of 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Malbec and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Deep Ruby red with aromas of ripe berry fruits, spice and floral notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry, currants and smoky oak with earthy floral and black pepper notes. Fine soft tannins, long finish ending with fruit, toasty oak and floral mineral character. Will still age a bit but nice now! Tasting Sample!

Always well above the waterline. Needs time. Lacking the depth and complexity that I’ve come to expect from this winery. Still very strong, but with time, I’m hoping it’s gonna step up into a heavier weight class. Mixing metaphors, but you get the point.

Too young resulting in a disappointment relative to expectations. This vintage should be stored for a decade. Fruit bomb in the nose with stewed prunes/plums and heated blackberries. The palate falls a bit short and not well balanced, again I attribute this to the youthful nature of this vintage.

Awful late dinner, 8 bottles in mistake. Not Pahlmeyer's fault. This was like beating a baby seal and complaining that it tasted rubbery. So so young, massive and unyielding. Tasted like the '17 vintage. Can't rate but hold this fucker and don't wake it until it's done sleeping.

Elegant and deeper than the well rounded fruit bomb of the red blend. A wine worthy of a life’s best celebrations.
