Boys night out. OS in the house. 16 is good to go. Previous vintages pip this, but no complaints.

A blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot & Petite Sirah, aged for 15 months in 45% new French oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits, cigar box herbs and flinty notes. On the palate ripe black cherry, currant and blackberry flavors with espresso, mocha and earthy leather. Well balanced, lively acidity, fine dusty tannins long finish ending with fruit, cedar and toasty mint pepper spice! Nice!

Dark ripe fruit followed by some cedar and graphite notes. Friendly tannins that really integrate well with a bit of food. Lots of power but also lots of pleasure!

At Canyon Village Yellowstone. A little flatter profile than I was expecting, but still very drinkable.

Had to try the 2016 vintage and I think it is better than ‘15. Of course it’s fruit driven but it seems to have more depth and be more balanced. Blackcurrant, vanilla, baking spice and some lightly bitter cacao on the palate. I think for the price this a great ‘heavy’ Napa Cabernet. A good Papillon should hopefully mean that there is a good Mercury Head to be tasted; looking forward to finding out.
