Orin Swift Palermo Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$42.99

Brand new release from Orin Swift!  Palermo is a fantastic buy in Napa Cabernet under $40.  A stunning, true-to-form Phinney wine: rich, dense, concentrated, fruit-forward and velvety. Each year, they purchase more Cabernet grapes than they need for Mercury Head and Papillon so they can have a virtual palette of vineyards and corresponding "spice rack" elements, if you will, to choose from to make the perfect blends. When their selection runneth-over and some of the sums of the parts behave more positively on their own, they deserve to be bottled separately and that is how a new wine was born, Palermo.  78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc blend selected from Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, St. Helena and Spring Mountain vineyards.

A blend of Cab Sauv, Merlot & Cab Franc, aged for 10 months in French oak, 35% new. Deep Ruby with ripe fruit aromas and round oak notes. On the palate flavors of blackberry & cherry with vanilla and cacao, starting to develop some leathery tones. Nice ripe soft tannins, that open easily. Long finish ending with fruit, mineral and vanilla character. Very nice should continue to drink well for next decade. Had this twice, very nice!

A blend of Cab Sauvignon, Merlot & Cab Franc, aged for 10 months in French oak, 35% new. Very dark red with big ripe fruit aromas with gentle oak notes. Flavors of rich blackberry and cherry show up with cacao and a bit of perfect spice. Big tannins, full that open up nicely dispite its youth. Lingering finish ending with some mineral notes. Very nice should drink well for next decade.

Another solid vintage of an old favorite. Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon with some Merlot and Cabernet Franc blended in. Dark ruby color with purple highlights. Aromas of cooked black fruit, forest floor, rose petals, violets and wet soil. Flavors of black berry/currant/plum, tobacco, anise, huckleberry, mint and dark chocolate. Well balanced, herbal and savory long finish. Well integrated tannins. Medium-plus body. Fruit forward but well crafted.

Amazing. It has a shy beginning. The nose promises a lot. There is some vanilla sweetness with ripe cherry and raspberry. But then comes the palate where all of it strikes you with some pepper, strong. But the finish is calm. It's really fantastic wine. I love it for its elegance connected with boldness. The wine made for James Bond. :)

Full bodied , minerality at the end - dark fruits? ‘Aged in French oak’

I always dig Orin Swift. Often disrespected but I’m a fan.
