Orin Swift Mercury Head Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2023

$174.99

96 points                                                    Orin Swift Cellars winemaker, Dave Phinney, is well-know for his Prisoner Zinfandel. He also makes this fantastic, rare Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley - very limited. 98 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep garnet-purple, the Orin Swift Cabernet Sauvignon Mercury Head  has bold, ripe black cherry and black berry scents with an undercurrent of raspberry leaves, ripe red and black plums, pencil shavings and a waft of iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has wonderful intensity and depth with loads of mineral sparks among the crunchy black and blue fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins, finishing long and earthy. Impressive!" The Orin Swift 2022 Mercury Head is a rare blend of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Taplin vineyard in St. Helena and the Morisoli vineyard in Rutherford. As in the previous vintage, it offers a complex intriguing structure along with vibrant dark fruit and subtle oak shadings. Cellar for up to a decade, or enjoy now with some aeration. Tiny production on this one, so don't wait long.

Heavens to Betsy this is delicious! I don't like using the word "smooth" to describe wine, but this Cabernet Sauvignon is Miles Davis. It's so good. Hard to pin down the fruit... blackberry, blueberry, cherry, tobacco, sweet cream, vanilla. A bit of lavender. Such soft, lingering tannins on the finish. Makes your teeth purple! I really love this wine, but I can't afford it. Listening to Ralph Stanley, who I miss dearly

Dark and darker- first notes splash with plums, cherries, bitter orange. Tannins are soft layered with anise, fig and coffee. Elegant and smooth.
