Odette Reserve Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$299

New release from the newest winery from the PlumpJack folks.  One of the highest-rated Cabernets of the vintage. Limited. 99 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve picks up the power at 15.6% alcohol, but also has a slightly more saturated opaque/purple color. The wine has a glorious nose of graphite, white flowers, blueberries and blackberries and licorice followed by a full-bodied wine with great precision and delineation, super freshness, vibrancy, and compelling richness and extraction. The finish goes on for a good 55 seconds. This is flirting with perfection in a real serious way. Drink it over the next 25-30 years..                                                .  ...Tucked into the dramatic palisades of the Stags Leap District, sits Odette Estate on 45 voluptuous acres. As the newest addition to the beloved region, Odette looks to serve as a "breath of fresh air" to the historic District. Contemporary architecture and design, paired with a contemporary stance on environmental responsibility, Odette is symbolic of the future of Stags Leap. With its two sister properties, PlumpJack and CADE (located in Oakville and Howell Mountai respectively), Odette rounds out the trio of wineries committed to producing full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignons that are notable for the combination of power and elegance, while simultaneously showcasing the unique properties of the AVA."

With how incredible this was tasting at pop and pour, I was disappointed to have to leave shortly after it was opened, so I didn’t get to see this unfurl and blossom after it was given some air. Quintessential Stags Leap District. Incredibly dark in the glass, almost black. Smells of mocha, currant, blackberries, licorice, and heady notes of baking spices. Velvet like on the palate adding some typical black cherry, alongside graphite, toasted graham cracker and dark chocolate. Powerful tannins. Hope to try another one of these.
