Occidental (Stephen Kistler) Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2014

$69.99

New Occidental Pinot Noir release from Kistler. Limited. "Once again, Occidental's Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) punches above its weight. Readers who want to understand how magical 2014 is for Pinot Noir in Sonoma might want to start here. The 2014 is vivid, precise and wonderfully nuanced from the very first taste. A host of dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, mint and rose petal infuse the deep, resonant finish. Far from an easygoing entry-level offering, the 2014 Sonoma Coast Pinot is a serious, powerful wine that will thrill readers for a number of years to come. The Sonoma Coast Pinot is the hidden gem in the Occidental range." Occidental is Steve Kistler's new Pinot Noir project, which is starting essentially as a spin-out from Kistler Vineyards. Steve Kistler remains CEO of Kistler Vineyards and very much in charge of day to day operations. At the same time, Kistler understandably wanted to manage a small project of his own with an eye towards his two younger daughters who will one day run Occidental.

The Sonoma Coast can be unforgiving. Fog and severe rain coming in from the ocean are commonplace. Despite the adversity, the region can yield sensational Pinot Noirs that should not be missed. The 2014 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a tremendous appellation level Pinot. Deep, textured and resonant, the 2014 possesses striking depth and elegance not to mention impeccable overall balance. Succulent red cherry, smoke, licorice and blood orange infuse this deeply expressive Pinot Noir from Steve Kistler's Occidental winery. Readers who can find the 2014 should not hesitate. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Mar 2017)

Lush cherry up front with a bright cranberry finish. Tart and lively on the side palate.

This was a show stopper. Tasted over three days, it never slowed down. Really deep, so much spice, so many layers, lush and the right amount of that coastal funk that I really enjoy. The tits.

I love kicking things off with a kicking Pinot!! My buddy Dov uncorked this beauty. I highly, highly recommend it! Gorgeous Floral Nose followed by what seemed to be a field of herbs. On the palate it was incredibly structured hitting the front, mid and back with beautiful fruit notes., forest floor moss, herb, spice and everything nice! Finely integrated tannins. This is a Rockstar and is built to play on for a long time! Thanks Dov!!!
