A fantastic small-production discovery from Paso Robles. Limited. Winemaker Nicolas Elliot began his journey in the world of wine in 2005. As a first generation winemaker born from four generations of general contracting, he appreciates hard work and determination. Starting as a cellar worker, his experience includes working alongside esteemed winemakers such as Bob Tillman of Alta Colina, Eric Jensen of Booker Vineyards and currently Scott Hawley of Torrin. By working and learning the "tricks of the trade," he has honed his own skills and applied the best attributes to his own style of winemaking. 91 Points Robert Parker: "The 2012 GSM is beautiful. Made from 48% Grenache, 44% Syrah and the balance Mourvedre, it has terrific notes of kirsch and blackberry fruits, herbes de Provence, spice and hints of minerality in its layered, ripe, sexy and full-bodied profile. I like it now but it should evolve nicely through 2022...Winemaker Nicolas Elliot continues to make a bevy of solid wines and most of his 2012s were outstanding." Notes from Winemaker Nicolas Elliot: "This wine is a blend of 48% Grenache, 44% Syrah and 8% Mourvedre, with the fruit coming from La Vista, Law, and Russell Family vineyards. The GSM (Grenache-Syrah-Mourvedre) blend gives me the most flexibility to create something that is unique and reflective of the vintage. It is always my favorite wine to craft. For 2012, the Grenache was aged in concrete, the Syrah in French oak barrels, and the Mourvedre was fermented 50% whole cluster and then aged in a once-used puncheon barrel. The mixture of different vineyards and winemaking techniques always keeps this wine interesting. With a bright and rich mouth-feel, the GSM 2012 is seamless and has great texture. Profiles of rose petal, dusty cocoa and plum make this wine intriguing yet focused, with a very lengthy finish of caramel. This wine is showing very well right now after a three hour decant, and will continue to age gracefully for the next 7-10 years."
