Nickel and Nickel Winery is all about single varietal, single vineyard wines and the 2016 Quicksilver Vineyard is a beautiful Rutherford Cabernet from the folks at Far Niente. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The Quicksilver Vineyard lies on the western Rutherford bench, along the famous Bella Oaks Lane. The soils are predominantly well drained loams that produce vines of moderate size. These older vines were planted to the California sprawl system, with wider spacing and a divided canopy, giving great exposure to the fruit. Minimal irrigation is needed to obtain maximum fruit potential..

On the nose, warm blue fruits, dark cherries, black plum, blackberries, cherries, warm soft spices, violets, caramel & vanilla. Palate of; M+ dusty tannins, black currants, blackberries, black plum, black raspberries & black cherries. The fruits are; sweet, fresh & ripe. Light loamy soils, crushed rock powder, sweet soft leather, roses, fresh red flowers, & violets. The texture, structure and balance are very good. Finish is; rich, ripe & well polished with good acidity. Barrel tasted the 2016 vintage at the Nickel & Nickel Entrecôte. Photos of the Quicksilver vineyard, vineyard loamy soil and the old carriage. Deep ruby color with purple highlights. Aromas of black fruit, iron and wet soil. Flavors of blackberry, black plum, dark chocolate and baking spices. Noticeable “Rutherford Dust” on the long, earthy and savory finish. Soft tannins. Alcohol and acidity are quite abundant and noticeable. Lower (more Medium) bodied then I expected. Well balanced and quite interesting.
