Nickel and Nickel Winery is all about single varietal, single vineyard wines and the 2017 Sullenger Vineyard is a beautiful Cabernet from the folks at Far Niente. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. 94 Points Robert Parker: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the Cabernet Sauvignon John C Sullinger Vineyard has a floral nose with cassis, red cherries and redcurrants plus wafts of pencil shavings and rose hip tea. The medium to full-bodied palate is vivacious with loads of poise and freshness plus firm, grainy tannins, finishing long." The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind the winery in the heart of Oakville and just next to Opus One! It is named for John C. Sullenger, who settled the farmstead in the 1880’s. The vineyard’s 30 acres of clay loam soil are planted exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon.

Gift from our friend Pete Gaynor. Excellent bottle. Rich, concentrated, blackcurrant, anise, spices and cherries. Elegant tanins and very accessible now but good potential for cellaring. We liked it a lot.

An absolute showstopper once opened and decanted. Beautifully layered with balanced fruit and acidity. Almost seemed a bummer to open this now—lots of room for this to get even better. Delicious.

I knew this would be a good wine, but it exceeded my expectations. The 2018s still need time in the cellar and I was surprised how approachable this is today. Dark berries, vanilla and tobacco. Should have bought more at $74.
