Neyen Espíritu de Apalta Colchagua Valley Carménère Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

$69.99

New release of one of the finest reds we've discovered from Chile. A delicious blend of Carmenere and Cabernet. 92 points Robert Parker:  "I find the 2015 Neyen quite ripe and powerful, with a Mediterranean character, faintly earthy and dusty with aromas of esparto grass and aromatic herbs. It's a full-bodied, powerful and concentrated red blend of 55% Cabernet sauvignon and 45% Carmenere. It has grainy tannins and a faint chalkiness. 11,500 bottles were filled in December 2016 after an élevage of 14 month in barriques and a further six months in 3,000-liter oak foudres."

Memories from when one was able to travel. Fun to drink after visiting - and seeing the 100 year old vines - and unique way of planting and replanting from the same root stock. Vines extend and planted back down into the Ground. Interesting - but not well diversified - if the primary dies, so goes the extended vine... The cab in the blend helps to mellow out the rather austere Carmeniere. Nice dark fruit and a hint of hickory and bramble berry Finish a bit on the short side #neyen
