Neely Hidden Block Spring Ridge Vineyard Pinot Noir 2009

$39.99

Neely is a great boutique Pinot Noir from Varner in California's Santa Cruz Mountains. 94 Points Robert Parker:  "Readers will find a wine of extraordinary textural finesse and elegance in the 2009 Pinot Noir Hidden Block. Sweet dried cherries, flowers, mint and hard candy are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. The finish turns a bit ethereal, but there is more than enough depth in the fruit to make me think the 2009 will drink well for a number of years. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017. Brothers Bob and Jim Varner craft the Neely wines from the same Santa Cruz Mountains vineyards that inform their own Varner label. For general commentary on the vintage, readers will want to reference my comments under the Varner wines."

My first wine from this producer but not my last. Classic Pinot nose and fruit. Balanced wood. Just a shade to much alcohol and a bit of stewed fruit. Really good with local Maui pork rib served with papaya and Maui onion salsa. We liked this wine a lot. Thank you to the producer.

Great perfume, very Californian. Not as thick as RRV Pinot. Borders too sweet for me perhaps?

Given the cost, I'm disappointed. Seems like a fruit bomb for a Pinot. Would like some more earth.
