Andrew Nalle makes on of Calfornia's classic and classiest Zinfandels. Don't miss. With only 13.8% alcohol and modest use of French oak aging, The Nalle 2020 Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel is bright and fruit forward in style, but with Dry Creek’s classic zinberry aromatics of cherry and strawberry. Smooth tannins and good midpalate weight, are a result of fresh berries and not raisins. 90% Zin, 7% Petite Sirah, 3% Carignane The Nalle 2020 Dry Creek Classic Zinfandel was raised in 25% new oak and comes in at a very civilized 13.8% octane in this vintage. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a youthful blend of brambles, black raspberry, roasted game, dark chocolate, a fine base of soil tones, bonfire, youthful fresh herb tones and blossoming spices in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and nascently complex, with a rock solid core of fruit, ripe, tangy acids, buried tannins and fine balance and grip on the long and very promising finish. Like all of the Nalle Zinfandels, the 2020 is built for the cellar and will need some bottle age before it blossoms properly and starts to drink with generosity. However, once it is really ready to drink, it will be delicious.

Purple in color with medium intensity. Fruity nose of blueberries, sweet raspberries, cherries, red plums, spices and black pepper. Medium bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs. Dry on the palate with cherries, raspberries, black plums, licorice, chocolates, light oak, light cloves, limes and peppercorn. Tangy finish with soft tannins and cranberries. This 3-year-old Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley is starting to drink nicely, although still young. Nicely balanced and fruit forward. Showing mild complexity with a soft mouth feel. Easy drinking and good by itself as a sipping wine. Tangy, bright and interesting. Would be nice to revisit it in 3 years, and see how it evolved. I had it all by itself and paired it with a beautiful sunny day. A blend of 90% Zinfandel, 7% Petite Sirah and 3% Carignan. Aged in (25% new) French Oak barrels for 11 months. Only 502 cases produced. 13.8% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $45.
