Mount Eden Vineyards Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2015

$59.99

96 Points - limited                             Limited new Pinot release from Mount Eden. previous vintage 96 Points Robert Parker:  "The Mount Eden Pinot Noir Estate is one of the stars from the appellation, and the vintage. Offering fabulous notes of black cherries, currants, crushed rocks and sous bois, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, building tannin and a killer finish. This is a sensational Pinot Noir that can be enjoyed today, or cellared for a decade or more...The Pinots are made with anywhere from 20-50% stem inclusion, which can make the wines hard to understand when young. If I am looking for an aged bottle of California Chardonnay or Pinot, Mount Eden is always at or near the top of my list."

If I didn’t know better I’d have bet this was a Burgundy. 1er cru, Grand Cru? Not sure because if I be damned, this is Cali Pinot! Wow. This is pure terroir. This nose has some baking spice and thyme. Let’s throw in some olives and orange peel, too. Then that palate is black tea, Rosemary, olive, plum, lavender. So much goodness in this stunning bottle. Yes!

Love this AVA. Currants and black cherry, turned earth, smoke and bacon fat (made me think of char siu pork). Great with roast chicken.

Medium garnet color with a nose of strawberries and tart cherries. It also has floral and cola notes. Very smooth with nice fruit. I think it is a drink now wine. Give it longer and it will flatten out. Very nice. Had with my father and mother-in-law with pork chops. Did scotch and cigars before dinner so hopefully my palate is accurate on this. A fun time with family. My favorite aspect of wine is its attachment to positive memories. Definitely had that as we enjoyed this wine.

Distinctive Pinot. Somewhat dry but bright. A step above most. December 2020.

This was really good, probably could have used some more time, though. It was right on day one, but opened up somewhat on days 2 and 3. Loved the flavor profile. (Note: I had intended to open the dominane eden and opened this by mistake. What a pleasant surprise!)
