Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2014

$34.99

95 Points - limited                     New release of the Domaine Eden Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains from Mount Eden winery - one of the best buys in Pinot Noir this year. 95 Points Wine Enthusiast **#9 in the Enthusiast 100 of 2016** and an *Editors' Choice*: " While this wine’s Mount Eden sister bottling may better stand the test of time, the Domaine Eden is what most people will most like to drink right now, and it’s cheaper too. Aromas of dried violets, uncrushed boysenberries and pencil lead make for an ethereal nose that seems to hold secrets one must uncover. Precise tannins on the palate offer floral yet savory flavors of black sesame, nori, violet and mulberry. It’s mellow yet mysterious." 93 Points Robert Parker: "A fabulous introduction to the Domaine/Mount Eden Pinots, the Pinot Noir is flat-out beautiful in the way it captures the essence of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the house style. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and herbs caress the palate. There is a purity of fruit that is stunning in its beauty. Partial use of whole clusters (20%) gives the wine much of its fragrance, but ultimately the Domaine Eden bottling is all about class. At $35 it represents one of the very finest buys in Pinot Noir from anywhere, including the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020."

2014 vintage. Very dark-fruited and lots of black tea. Black cherry, crabapple, black plum, dried cranberry, black tea, subtle spice, walnut husk, dried autumn leaves. Reminiscent of a good village level Gevrey-Chambertin.

The wines from Domaine Eden are made in part from deselected barrels from Mount Eden, one of the most iconic estates in the world that sits at an elevation of 2000 feet in the Santa Cruz Mountains, overlooking Silicon Valley. Domaine Eden's 2014 Pinot Noir is a pleasant, easygoing mid-weight wine to drink now and over the next few years. Sweet floral notes, spice, hard candy, herb and dried cherry are all nicely lifted in this pretty, delineated Pinot. This is an especially fragrant, aromatic style for the Domaine Eden Pinot. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Jul 2017)

Drank with Elissa’s garlic chicken, potato fingers, and yellow squash. Very good wine and excellent dinner. Perfectly aged. Subtle cherries and blackberries. Long finish of same fruit. Good light acid and some earthiness. One of the better CA pinots I’ve had in several years.

Deep red fruit, spice - soft tannins and low acid. Tasty without much depth. A touch ripe for me.
