Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir 2013

$34.99

New release of the Domaine Eden Pinot Noir Santa Cruz Mountains from Mount Eden winery - limited. 93 Points Robert Parker: "A fabulous introduction to the Domaine/Mount Eden Pinots, the Pinot Noir is flat-out beautiful in the way it captures the essence of the Santa Cruz Mountains and the house style. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and herbs caress the palate. There is a purity of fruit that is stunning in its beauty. Partial use of whole clusters (20%) gives the wine much of its fragrance, but ultimately the Domaine Eden bottling is all about class. At $35 it represents one of the very finest buys in Pinot Noir from anywhere, including the hallowed vineyards of Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020." Brix26 Inside Scoop: Mount Eden is one of the United States’ great heritage estates. The Chardonnays and Pinots have a track record for aging spectacularly well. As outstanding as the Chardonnays and Pinots can be, I was also pretty surprised by the quality of the Cabernet Sauvignons. Winemaker and proprietor Jeffrey Patterson favors indigenous fermentations for all his wines, which are also bottled with no fining or filtration. The top Chardonnay bottling, the Estate, spends a year in barrel and six months in steel, as do so many of the top whites in Burgundy these days. The Pinots are made with anywhere from 20-50% stem inclusion, which can make the wines hard to understand when young. If I am looking for an aged bottle of California Chardonnay or Pinot, Mount Eden is always at or near the top of my list.

Classics are staying strong. Oldest vines 1943 plantings and a delicate hand. Fantastic!

Pale and pretty red fruit, with a good bit of oak and possible stem inclusion. Overall a light frame but the fruit sweetness is well-balanced with tart acidity and some oak tannin.

From the famed Haro-Lumia tasters dozen. This one was disappointing. The fruit was muddled, the body light, and the finish short. I was not impressed. The Eighty20 was significantly better at half the price.

Subdued fruit, nice mushroominess. Forest floor came out with time in the glass. Slightly effervescent at first, but this disappeared with a little air.

Little bit of Coke to it, blackberry palate and violet nose. Has some red fruit in there to let you know what it is
