Morgan Twelve Clones Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2016

$27.99

Phenomenal buy                                                Morgan makes one of our favorite Central Coast Pinots.  The Twelve Clones is one of the best pinot values in California. 90 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "It may not be cheap, but this is a Pinot that outperforms at the price. It leads with a moderately deep, nicely composed nose of ripe cherries, raspberries and dried roses with a well-considered dollop of sweet oak, and its rich and continuous flavors build on its very handsome aromatic beginnings. Although moderately full-bodied, it is so lissome and lithe that it never seems in the least bit heavy, and, as free of angles and edges as it may be, it nonetheless has the structural inner bones to improve for a few years and then keep for a good many more. GOOD VALUE." 'Highly recommended,' California Grapevine: " Medium-light to medium ruby; fragrant, bright cherry and raspberry fruit aroma with hints of vanilla, cedar, and dried herbs; medium to medium-full body; ripe, elegant, cherry fruit flavors with a slight plushness in the mouthfeel; medium tannin; lingering aftertaste. Easy to drink and enjoy now (Jun 2016)" This special wine demonstrates the power and finesse of Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. It displays aromas of dried cherry, brown sugar, cedar, and dry herbs. Flavors of pomegranate are complemented by notes of dates and mineral. Perfectly poised fruit/acid balance make this wine incredibly food-versatile. It is a wonderful accompaniment to roast chicken and grilled salmon, as well as almost any duck, beef or lamb preparation. Barrel aged 8 months in 37% new French oak. Alcohol 13.8%."

Great recommendations from our local wine spot, second glass was even better than the first.

A fruit forward Pinot. Lots of cherry and black raspberry. Then a touch of tobacco and white pepper. Then it sort of is gone at the finish. Good stuff but not great. I’ll stick to my OR Pinot in this price range.

Dark cherry with cinnamon and nutmeg. A long acid finish. A smooth and balanced Pinot drinking well young.
