A gem of a cabernet from Napa Valley's famed Pritchard Hill. It's almost hard to believe there is a Pritchard Hill Cabernet for $100, but we found it! Montagna is Bob Long’s newest project, not far from David Arthur, which Bob founded with his brother David. Not only do the brothers share space on arguably Napa’s finest real estate, but they also share the talents of winemaker Nile Zacherle. Pritchard Hill is home to wines like Colgin, Continuum and others that sell for $150+ at least. Don't miss this delicious Cabernet from an up-and-coming producer. previous vintage 91 Points Robert Parker: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Tre Vigneti is the softest and most accessible of the Cabernet Sauvignons, with a dark purple color, notes of blackcurrants and creamy oak, a luscious, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, excellent purity, and good texture and length. It is relatively dramatic and evolved, so drink it over the next 10-12 years...Montagna winery is Bob Long’s new project on Pritchard Hill, not far from David Arthur, which Bob founded with his brother David. Nile Zacherle, the winemaker at David Arthur, is also in charge at Montagna. These early releases suggest Montagna is another of the rising stars in Napa’s hottest neighborhood

Au revoir France. Little gem on Pritchard Hill for 1/3 of the price of its neighbors.

Last of these enjoyed tonight and I must say that I was really quite impressed. My last impression of this wine ended in an NR rating, but I think I'm ready to give this one a 91. This wine started rather flabby in the front. This is a parcel of three Lake Hennessy / Pritchard Hill vineyards so in hindsight I probably should have kept the cork in this one for another 10 years. Still pretty delicious tonight. Dark, thick, blackberry cassis, hint of iodine. Middle of this wine shows a gritty, terroir-driven note. The finish is where this one kind of lacks. A little acidic, mature black fruit, black pepper, but really not very long....at all. I think this one could benefit from a couple more years in the bottle, but not sure how much more this one would improve in the bottle, if at all.

Very classy Cab from St. Helena. Beautiful color with oak and toasted vanilla notes. Very smooth with balanced heat on the finish. Some jam but not overly so. Perfect evening wine.
