Mollydooker is a hot new label from Australia - try one of the highest-rated Shiraz' ever while its still available. 95 Points Robert Parker: "The opaque purple-colored Blue-Eyed Boy Shiraz spent 12 months in 80% new American oak. It offers up an enticing nose of cedar, tobacco, mineral, blueberry, and black raspberry. Opulent on the palate, this glossy effort will evolve for another 1-2 years but can be enjoyed now and over the next decade." Mollydooker (the Australian equivalent of “Southpaw”– both Sparky and Sarah Marquis are left-handed) is the label of the renowned winemaking team of Sparky and Sarah Marquis.
Sipping Fine Wine
Had a couple of these “Blue Boys” in my cellar. Mollydooker (Aussie for left-hander) Wines was established in 2005 by Sarah and Sparky Marquis. Dark Ruby with big dark berry fruit nose adding sweet spice and cedar. On the palate this wine has complex flavors of blackberry and blueberry with cacao, oak and vanilla. Fine dusty tight tannins, peasant mouthfeel, full-bodied, long ending with a nice spicy finish. Aging well, good now, has room to run.

Monthly WTF wine group night. Our theme was American oak vs French oak. All wines tasted blind. We started off with two bottles of bubbly and finished with two non-themed reds. For being a Mollydooker, I was surprised at how nimble this was. Sure, it was a hedonistic and rich style, but it didn’t seem too hot or flabby. Lots of cocoa powder, freshly dipped chocolate covered black cherries, savory cherry tobacco leaves and finished with a note of Andes mint. I called this Syrah with American oak. Thanks @Ryan G
