Metzker Family Estates Estates Pinot Noir 2016

$54.99

A fantastic boutique discovery in small-production Pinot Noir from Metzker Family Estates. This Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is lively and playful, opening up with aromas of dried rose petals, violets and wild berries. As the wine warms in your glass, more layers of fruit and baking spices reach your senses. The mellow and smooth tannins are a perfect balance to the racy acidity on the mouthfeel. There is a long-lasting finish of freshness with this wine, making it food friendly and hard not to pour another glass. 92 Points Wine Spectator: "Big and rich, with layers of flavor unfolding on a bedrock frame. Dried raspberry, cherry tart and nectarine notes dominate, showing hints of cola and ample spice. Underbrush details emerge on the finish. Best from 2020 through 2024. 310 cases made."

A dark, staining ruby with some vivid purple tones. A pretty inviting nose of mostly fruit. Red and black berries pair with mildly understated cedar and floral accents. Initially so very tight, this thing is so closed in and seemingly hesitant to show her face but after some heavy decanting she starts to strut her stuff. Bracing acidity slaps you in the face until time softens that edge. A really nice streak of cinnamon is present on the mid palate along with some pretty low profile tannins. Plums and black fruits abound on the palate to match the slightly generous oak. It strains to rise above the typicity of its cousins in California Pinot and occasionally reaches that level. A valiant effort.
