Very limited new Cult Cabernet from Napa Valley 94 Points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Merus (95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot) is a 1,200-case cuvee that is softer, more fruit-forward, but doesn’t lose any of the power or richness that constitutes this impressively made Cabernet Sauvignon. Like all vintages to date, the wine spends 18-20 months in 100% new French oak barrels (usually Taransaud), and will be bottled without filtration. The characteristic 2006 softness, opulence, and riper, richer fruit with less restraint and Bordeaux-like structure is obvious in the 2006 Merus. I expect this wine to put on even more weight by the time it is bottled and I taste it again in 12 months. This is another beauty, but for now their 2005 looks to be one of the greatest wines they have made to date. The husband and wife team of Mark Herold and his graphic designer wife, Erika Gottl, continue to play an increasingly important role in the production of high quality Cabernet Sauvignons from Napa, not only with their home wine, called Merus, but also with their consultancy work for wineries such as Kobalt, Kamen, Hestan, Harris Estate Vineyards, and Ardore."

06' Merus Cabernet. Commented on this Cabernet several times in the last few years .This was one of the last year's that Mark made the wine. Pop & pour , let it up in the glass. It's ready to go! Edit- Decanting it for 30 minutes would be best. Prime drinking years now.

06' Merus Cabernet. One hour decanting. I think it's a pop & pour wine. Dark ruby red in color with Violet edges. Big full-bodied Cab. I had this same bottle Labor Day weekend. Nothings really changed. Black licorice, raspberry. A long smooth finish! I don't see this wine getting much better. It still has a few great years in it.

Magical, with layers of rich flavors and heady aromas of worn leather, cigar box and licorice. Firm chewy tannins and lingering finish. Yum!
