A beautiful small-production Cabernet we highly recommend. Scarlett Wines is a family operation owned by the McGah family, who are most notably known for co-founding the Oakland Raiders. The McGah's make this wine from the best plots in their Rutherford vineyard which produces wines of great finesse, power while showcasing a sense of place and purpose. Loaded with ripe and opulent fruit, it is framed by firm but supple tannins gaining length and grace along the way. This wine drinks well in its youth but will also age gracefully for 8-15 years. Flirting with perfection, the 2017 McGah Family Cabernet Sauvignon is a seamless, flawless and a compelling Rutherford beauty. Unbelievable complexity and layers intermingle with aromas of berry compote, cassis with a black cherry core that jumps from the glass. The mid palate is a silky flow of abundant blue and black fruits, followed with an opulent, full-bodied mouthfeel. The integrated structure and polished tannins carry through to a detailed and long finish. This blend from five of our Cabernet Sauvignon blocks on the estate show cases what an amazing terroir the McGah Family Vineyard is. Allow two to three years for it to mellow out or enjoy it in its prime five to ten years out. It's an absolute pleasure to release this wine.
