Maybach Family Vineyards Amoenus Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$175

Another stunning boutique Napa Cabernet made by Thomas Rivers Brown. Limited. 100 Points Robert Parker: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus appears to be prodigious. Its inky/blue/purple color is followed by lots of meaty cassis notes, a chewy, full-bodied mouthfeel, and a luxurious, over-the-top richness that obscures some significant, sweet tannins. I suspect this wine will show more structure and firmness once it gets in bottle, much as the 2009 has demonstrated. This 2012 possesses enormous potential... ...There are now two Mayback cuvees. The Materium comes from a single block called the Weitz Vineyard at a 1,000 foot elevation on the eastern side of Oakville. The Amoenus comes from a Calistoga vineyard on Tubbs Lane (where Chateau Montelena is located). These wines continue to prove the exceptional efforts and quality the proprietors have achieved since I first started tasting these wines nearly a decade ago. That commitment to excellence is reflected in the fact that Maybach completely declassified both the 2011 Amoenus and Materium cuvees.Only 265 cases produced.

Sunday funday. Blackberry, black cherry, kirsch. Opulent on the entry, this coats your mouth. The mid-palate is a touch savory with smoke/leather/earth before the fruit returns on the long finish. While not on the same level as the Materium, it would be a shame to ignore or downplay this excellent wine which is perhaps more drinkable on release. But curious about other thoughts on the two wines. What do you think?

Fantastic. Depth and punch made it perfect to go after the Pavots.

IMO this needs some time to integrate. Blackberries, vanilla and oak.

2012 This is showing superbly! Cannot wait to try Materium. Deep, finessed, and delicious. Well worth it!

2012 as well-what a great vintage!! Another incredible wine however I prefer the Materium...but can't go wrong with either one.
