Longoria Fe Ciega Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

$48

The Longoria 2013 Fe Ciega Vineyard Pinot Noir is a stunning single-vineyard Pinot Noir from the famous Pinot country of Santa Rita Hills where Richard Longoria has been handcrafting superb wines since 1982.  95 Points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm in acids, with some tannins, yet not at all hard. This is a magnificent, masculine Pinot Noir. It floods the palate with cherry pie, cola and mocha flavors, Asian spices and a sweet, smoky, buttery phyllo pastry quality. So technically perfect, with such structure, it seems guaranteed for the cellar. Drink now through 2010, but who knows how long it will last."

Immediately get some ripe red fruit, baking spices like nutmeg, forrest floor, wet wood. The palate has silky and somewhat chalky tannins with acidity that hits the putter rims of the mouth. The baking spices are present, but with a bit less ripe red fruit. Maybe some white pepper creeps in towards the end. This is a good showing with a bit more time, but why wait. Doesn’t need a long decant.

Joel’s birthday ski trip. Nice soft Pinot; very much fruit flavored - dark cherries, went very well with sushi.
