96 points Rare new release from Paso Robles cult winery Linne Calodo, Problem Child is a delicious Zinfandel-based blend. Limited. previous vintage 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Bright purple. Highly expressive aromas of mineral-tinged dark berry preserves, incense and candied licorice are complicated by a sexy floral nuance. Smoky and seamless in texture, offering alluringly sweet black and blue fruit, spicecake and floral pastille flavors braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Finishes with outstanding clarity, mounting tannins and floral-dominated tenacity, leaving blue fruit and exotic spice notes behind." If you are looking for Zinfandel, look no further. The Linne Calodo 2018 Problem Child is one of the best examples of Zinfandel in the whole state of California. As usual, the bold audacity of Zinfandel is tamed by skillful blending with Syrah, Carignan, and Graciano. It’s like obedience school for the Problem Child, each grape helps develop the wine into a knowledgeable smart ass that will test the boundaries. The rich and bold wine elicits flavors of cranberries, raspberries, orange peel and cinnamon. There’s a wonderful mouthfeel that hints to memories of gram cracker dust, toast and blueberry jam. Delicious today or consume over the next 5-7 years.

Youthful purple. Expressive, spice- and mineral-accented cherry and dark berry aromas reveal an emerging floral top-note and a hint of vanilla. Sappy and alluringly sweet, offering palate-staining red/blue fruit preserve, candied violet, spice-cake and mocha flavors that deftly marry richness to energy. Deepens with air while maintaining urgency, and closes extremely long and spicy, with gentle tannic grip and resonating blue fruit and floral notes. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2020)
