L'Aventure is one of the hottest wineries on the up-and-coming Westside of Paso Robles wine region. A beautiful blend of Cabernet/Syrah blend, the Optimus is a big, delicious red. 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: (55% syrah, 27% cabernet sauvignon and 18% petit verdot; 15.8% alcohol): Inky purple. Ripe dark berry and cherry aromas are complicated by musky underbrush and anise. Round, juicy blackberry and cassis flavors stain the palate, with juicy acidity providing verve. Becomes spicier and more vibrant on the gently tannic finish, with the dark berry and anise notes repeating."The 2010 Optimus is a blend of 55% Syrah, 27% Cab and 18% Petit Verdot that entices with a tangy cherry, chocolate and mineral-inflected bouquet. The palate is redolent of mixed berry pie, with peppery spice and a dose of saddle leather. But this isn't a total fruit bomb, there's plenty of acidity to keep it fresh, and subtle tannins.
