L'Aventure Côte à Côte Estate Paso Robles Grenache Blend 2013

$96

Limited new blockbuster release from one of Paso Robles hottest wineries.  Don't miss. 96 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2013 Cote a Cote plays in the same ballpark and offers up gorgeous black raspberry, violets, spring flowers and licorice in its medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless personality. I love the overall purity here, and while it has loads of fruit, it’s perfectly balanced and has sound underlying structure. It’s another wine that will drink nicely on release, yet also evolve gracefully.... ...This was another incredible lineup by winemaker Stephan Asseo, and both his 2012s and 2013s are at the top of the vintage. Looking at the 2012s, this vintage reminds Stephan of 2004, and the wines show incredible purity, as well as blockbuster levels of depth and richness. The tannin quality here is also off the charts, and this is what puts his 2012s a notch above the 2013s. For the reds, we started the tasting with 2013s from barrel. At the moment, the 2013s have more obvious tannin structure, yet they don’t lack for fruit or texture either. It will be interesting to see how these continue to develop in barrel. Either way, both of these vintages deserve a place in your cellar and it will be thrilling stuff to follow these wines over the coming decade or longer."

2018 is yummy for sure. Not a fan of GSM blends, and lean cab most for higher end reds. Wouldn’t pass a glass up if were offered, but prefer Cabs, I guess.

Cold November date night at home...2 inch med-rare filets, fully dressed bakers, and roast butternut....Stephan’s MGS is a brut at 15.8–but Paso blends hide the ABV with some age. Beautiful full purple with no noticeable jamminess.. med-weight, a touch of pencil, leather, tobacco oak but lovely dark, black fruit/stem fruit. Nice acid/fruit/tannin balance and a long warming finish. I’ve loved these wines and valued Stephan Assao since he walked into my retail workplace 25 years ago and tried to sell his wines. Perfect...no...but they taste so fucking good and I love them and their vision!

40% Mourvèdre, 30% Grenache, 30% Syrah blend from the hand of Stephan Asseo. This (or similar) has become my go-to Steak wine. Still inky black with blackberry, leather, and pencil lead notes...no sign at all of 15.8 alcohol. Silky smooth, lively balance, and a 45 second finish. I love this wine and the way it ages. My favorite Paso producer... bar none.

Lovely nose, sweet start. This bottle loves oxygen and embraces it. The problem is it is such an easy drink that you cannot get the greatest benefit of letting it breathe. Do yourself a favor and decant it a good hour before imbibing. This went great with steaks and roasted veggies. I would rate this higher if it were modestly priced.
