Larkmead Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$119.99

98 Points                                         A beautiful new Napa Valley Cabernet from boutique producer Larkmead! 98 Points Wine Enthusiast "Editor's Choice": "This stellar, powerhouse wine is perfumed in aromas of pencil, leather and sage that season a core of mineral and crushed rock. The fruit is equally savory in currant and plum, with a dusting of dark chocolate. Enjoy now -2029." 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the barrel samples, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty, elegant wine that has perfumed notes of red and black currants, spring flowers, and spice. A blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Petit Verdot that was harvested early in September, it’s going to need short-term cellaring. It’s a beautiful base cuvee that does everything right." The historic Larkmead estate is one of the oldest family-owned establishments in Napa Valley. Originally founded in 1895, Larkmead is now under the stewardship of proprietors Cam and Kate Solari Baker. Winemaker Dan Petroski captures the nuance and complexity of this site by vinifying small lots according to clonal selection and soil type.

The nose made me think perfection but .... it was very good just not great

This wine has really come around over the last year or two - the tannins have done from chewy to soft and elegant. Lovely notes of leather, sage and compote

Had a year ago and said wait two years. But, I have a line on a case for a great price so revisiting. Really good progress and 93 could be conservative. Still tannins to resolve so I stick to not quite ready but really developing into a stunner. Gonna grab the case. (And the 2014 Firebelle)

Stop, turn around, put this back, and grab something else from the cellar. Don’t touch until at least 2024. This is the first ‘16 I’ve thought was too tannic to drink now. Bitter chocolate, currant, coffee, and cherry.

Dark red on the sight. Great nose: potent dark fruit, beautiful, with some vanilla notes. Full bodied, high tannings with velvet feel, very structured. Powerful wine.

Beautiful bouquet right out of the bottle. Takes time to open up, but the lusciousness soon evolved to evident dark fruit and subtle spice on the nose and palate. An elegant Napa Cabernet that’ll pair perfectly with braised short ribs.
