Larkmead Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$124.99

A beautiful new Napa Valley Cabernet from boutique producer Larkmead! 97 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (2,775 cases produced of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits lots of blueberry, blackberry, cassis, chocolate and graphite, full body, a majestic texture, and terrific purity and length. Drink 2016-2030+...As I have written before, this is an extraordinary estate spread out in one contiguous parcel (unusual) in the center of the Napa Valley floor, north of St. Helena and south of Calistoga. Proprietor Cam Baker farms 110 acres, and the Cabernet Sauvignon is the Olmo Clone which became well-known as the Eisele Clone when it was planted in the famous vineyard of that name. A singular characteristic of the Larkmead vineyard is that it has a strong vein of old river gravel. Former winemaker Andy Smith has moved on and has been replaced by Dan Petroski, who has not missed a beat finishing the 2012s and producing the 2013s, which Cam Baker believes might be the vintage of the century for Larkmead"

M+ tannins, blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, cherries, strawberries come on late, expresso roast, leathery, medium spice, dry dark soil, dry red florals, cigar with ash, dry stems, acid is good but there is still a fair amount of tension in this wine, good structure, length and balance with a dry tannin finish. Needs 5-8 years before you want to open one and will last another 7 plus years.

I tasted a ridiculous amount of good wine tonight. Hopefully these notes make sense! This was my first introduction to Larkmead, and what an introduction it was. For a Napa cab, this was very heavy on the red fruits. Lots of cherries, almost sweet tart candy. Balanced integration of oak. I'd like to try some older bottles of this.

Drinks like a ripe Bordeaux. Varietally correct black currants and eucalyptus are accompanied by lush, blueberry fruit, cedar, vanilla, with an incredible depth and and an acidity that gives way to a lingering finish. As good as Napa gets.

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon - Outstanding vino, with hints of pepper and cherry or plum. A robust wine that I anticipate enjoying again. Great with a ribeye! :)
