La Jota Vineyard Co. Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$74.99

95 Points - Limited                       New release of one of Napa's most sought-after Cabernets. Limited. La Jota's cooler temperatures, wetter climate, iron-volcanic soils, and forests filled with conifers make Howell Mountain one of Napa's most Bordeaux like appellations and a place where Cabernet based wines shine. This Cabernet showcases anise and blackberry fruit with notes of pine and toast, combined with great textural length and a lingering finish. 95 Points Antonio Galloni:  "Graphite, pencil shavings, violets, melted road tar, spices, blue/purplish fruit and lavender flesh out in the Cabernet Sauvignon from La Jota. Aromatically striking and totally vivid in the glass, the 2011 stands out for its crystalline purity, finesse and vibrant finish. All the elements are in the right place. The tannins are firm yet also silky. This is a flat-out stunning wine from Chris Carpenter and La Jota. The 2011 is 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot.

2012 - drink if you got them - not improving from a year ago - big and bold but missing one gear from being a sports car I want it to be - still smiling at the lake with @R Bowers on his anniversary and not social distancing very well

@Mike R Thank Bud for an awesome bottle of wine that I have never had before. Very solid., Dark fruit on the palate: blackberry, dark cherry are what I immediately picked up. It seems to hit the Front and Mid Palate really well but the back palate not as much. The finish was a little short....I was hoping that it would just keep going since I was enjoying it so much ch!! It was a great lush wine which was enjoyed tremendously by all!! Thank you so much my friend!!!

Tasted this alongside the Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon from Mount Veeder. Both incredible wines but this one just had a bit more of a punch to it. Dark ruby purplish red. Insanely tight to start on the nose with some raspberries. Developed some earthy tones like truffles and mushrooms with a few hours in the glass. Not as fruity as the Mt. Brave and pretty tight with some austere mountain berries. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Definitely needs some time to fully balance out. Long and dry finish. Very impressive and everything coats the glass. Drink from 2017 till 2036.

I find that I like the fruit that comes from Howell Mountain despite who produces it. Berries on the nose, flavors of bittersweet chocolate, dusty oak that ends with a smooth finish.
