Kosta Browne Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2017

$109

Inaugural release!                                                  Extremely limited Kosta Browne 2017 Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir. 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills was 90% destemmed and brought up in mostly neutral oak (French and Austrian). Its ruby/purple hue is followed by a beautiful bouquet of ripe strawberry and raspberry fruits interwoven with plenty of spice, flowery incense, and violet nuances. Ethereal, medium-bodied, and elegant on the palate, it has a terrific sense of balance, integrated acidity, and a great finish. It's not a blockbuster Pinot by any measure yet has complexity, balance, and length. I'm a big fan." Sta. Rita Hill’s 2018 growing season was long and provided ripe stems which allowed us to incorporate more whole cluster within our smaller lots. This technique provided structure and depth to the vibrant fruit profile. This wine is focused, with bright strawberry and cherry notes and a subtle, pleasing tension

A dark ruby red color. Big nose! Raspberry, cherry tart jumps from the glass with a floating aroma of forest floor and green herbs lingering. A tart cherry juicy flavor hits the tip and mid pallet. A mandarin peel floating in strawberry spice toasted herbs gives the wine a long smooth finish with definite tannins still present. Smokey skies outside so a nice early evening inside drinking a good Pinot with Nachos!

Double decant and pour. A noteworthy medium ruby red color. On the nose: jumping from the glass are tart raspberries, forest floor, cherries, floral, orange peel, earth. Taste: medium body, juicy, with surprisingly restrained notes of cherry, mandarin, baking spice, dried herbs, and a strawberry toast long smooth finish with some tannic kick...give it more time.

Flowers in the aroma. Raspberries, currants, blueberries at the start tempered by orange bitters that then lead off the neat finish.

This is a good wine. Soft with some ripe cherry, maybe a touch of vanilla/oak. I like the other KBs better.
