Kosta Browne Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir 2018

$114.95

Extremely limited Kosta Browne 2018 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. previous vintage 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the two reds, the appellation Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast reveals a ruby/purple, translucent color as well as a stunning perfume of black raspberries, cassis, crushed violets, spice box, sweet earth. It's rich, medium to full-bodied, has beautiful depth, a kiss of background oak, and a great finish. Mostly destemmed and aged 17 months in 40% new French oak, it's a brilliant wine to drink over the coming decade or more." 94 Points James Suckling: "Lots of the blue fruits and dried flowers on the nose. Oyster shell too. Medium to full body, linear and vibrant. Energetic. Clean and intense finish. Drink or hold." The vineyards sourced from for the Kosta Browne 2018 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir lies in both the southern portion of the appellation and in the northern true coastal zone. In the southern area, the Petaluma Wind Gap and the San Pablo Bay drive cooler temperatures and provide us with deep flavors and richly textured wines. The vineyards from the coastal reaches contribute more of the savory and spice characteristics that we love as well as great structure and poise. In our second year working with the fruit, Marshall Ranch, in Sebastopol, again proved to be an excellent cornerstone for our Sonoma Coast blend, offering vibrant fruit, crisp color and racy, grounded acidity. Nose: Forest floor, with blackberry, Bing cherry and bramble fruits. A hint of Rosemary. Mouth: Thoughtful and focused. Intense dark fruits with notes of blackberry and blueberry.

My #9 in this 2007-2018 vertical, and it was the 2018. I didn’t think it was necessarily that young but maybe for me the KB‘s need to age a bit longer to really realize their potential. 30% - 40% from Gaps Crown in this vintage.

One of my favorites! Great vintage with delicious strawberry notes on the nose with the perfect amount of earthiness on the palate. Smooth from the beginning to the end.

This needs time. Not as expressive and ready as the RRV. Bright red fruit, spice and stone. Look forward to this in 3-5 years

Oh come on—-I paid nearly $100 for this?? I am actually rating the 2018 Kosta Browne Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir, which Delectable apparently does not have in its database. Was looking forward to this as a Thanksgiving treat, but boy did it disappoint. Thin and uninspired upon opening, with no improvement after an hour of decanting. No complexity, no finesse, no nose, no nothing. Just not special enough for the price. This is the second of two bottles I got from one of my partners who is on their allocation list. He can keep his place on that list; my interest in Kosta Browne is now nil.

After a very busy weekend, we sat around the table eating leftovers. Hard to see a Kosta Browne being a complement to “leftovers” but it was wonderful. Light red:purple color with strawberry and blueberry on the nose and some slight earth tones coming through the palate. This feels and tastes like a Russian River Valley Pinot but softer. Definitely worth having again. . . And again.

It’s young - all stem right now - but can’t wait to see where it goes!
