Klinker Brick Old Vine Lodi Zinfandel 2014

$19

One of the best value boutique Zinfandels in California! An intense, fruit-filled wine you expect to cost at least twice as much. If you have yet to try a Zin from Lodi, this is the one! The Klinker Brick 2014 Old Vines Zinfandel is produced from an amalgam of 14 different vineyard blocks, ranging in age from 35 to 110 years old. This vintage saw lower yields than 2005, producing a wine that is both complex and bold. Showing typical Klinker Brick cherry/berry/plum fruit components with aromatic spices on the nose, this wine is incredibly well balanced with a silky smooth texture and a long lingering finish. One of their best!

This tends to be among the best of the slightly sweet Lodi Zins. It is restrained in its jamminess and, while big, not full of port-level ABV. The flavors are blackberry and raspberry but the acidity is more balanced than most. I would recommend pairing with a spicy or peppery steak dinner, not so much as a cocktail wine.

Juicy and raisinated cassis, strawberry, currants, and cherries. Licorice, anise, hints of black pepper, little oak or earth. Apricot and peach. Full throttle. Medium (minus) acidity, and sweet tannins. A lot of residual sugar.

Everything you'd expect from a Lodi zin: spicy, a little jammy, sweet on the front end, heat on the back. Good pizza wine

Nice aroma of plum and dark cherries, bold and spicy which I personally enjoy. Better after aerating or allowing to breath for a while.
