Kistler Vine Hill Vineyard Chardonnay 2015

$124.99

Kistler 2015 Vine Hill Vineyard Chardonnay  - rare new release. 96 Points Robert Parker:  "From the vineyard in front of the winery, the 2013 Chardonnay Vine Hill Road Vineyard offers up the classic Old Wente clone style of white peach, white currants, honeysuckle, apple blossom, medium to full body, gorgeous purity and richness in a style similar to a Corton Charlemagne from Burgundy. Drink it over the next 4-6 years... ...the single-vineyard wines all represent much smaller quantities of wine. There have been several noticeable changes in the Kistler wines over the last few years, as they are certainly picking the Pinot Noir at an earlier date and going for less extraction, more fragrance and delicacy. The Chardonnays are still powerful wines but they have backed off the new oak to about 40%. (About 10 years ago, it was around 60%.) Other than that they are still potent and rich Chardonnays that are meant to be drunk in their first 4-6 years of life. It is my experience that aging Kistler wine has not been generally as successful as I would have hoped.."

Bright and very fruit forward with layers of candied fruit on the palate. Medium bodied. Nice acidity. I think this will be better in another year or two.

Although I own a few younger Kistler, and have only really TASTED Kistler with 6+ years of age on it, this was a nice contrast. I can tell why some prefer these like this and why some prefer these with some age. This wine was a bit more acidic up front than I thought it would be. Had a nice mango and melon profile with some dried nut, herb and popcorn kernel going on, and was getting a tiny bit of tropical fruit to the back, but the body of this wine was a bit on the jagged side even on the finish although the finish was a bit more velvety. I can definitely see how this jagged quality would tone down after 5 + years so for those who appreciate this with a softer quality, you've got a bit of a wait ahead of you.

Slightly greenish yellow, calm pear aroma, very smooth with oak & nuts flavor and citrus acid. Quite complex, so it takes enough time to taste it. @800/90, Enoteca, 171014
