Kistler Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay 2016

Kistler 2016 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay  - rare new release. 95 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2016 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard gives up gregarious notes of underripe pineapple, green mango and grapefruit with suggestions of brioche, beeswax, toasted almonds and yeast extract. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is coated with silken-textured tropical and savory layers, complemented by a harmonious line of freshness and finishing impressively long and mineral laced.... ...Kistler Vineyards remains one of the absolute benchmark producers of great Sonoma Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, sitting right up there with the highest quality examples of these grapes from throughout the world. While the wines come from as wide a range of top terroirs as Sonoma can provide, interestingly nearly all of the Chardonnays are produced from a proprietary selection of Wente clones taken from a Larry Hyde block in the early 1980s. The exception is the Kistler Vineyard, which contains some original Martin Ray Mount Eden clonal material. This can be found in the straight Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay bottling, as opposed to the Cuvee Cathleen, which is mainly Wente selection. All the vineyard-designate Chardonnays are produced in precisely the same manner, meaning the differences between them are almost exclusively down to the differences in terroir. And as readers will see from my notes, the differences are striking."

Excellent Kistler. Subtle pineapple, Meyer lemon, creamy, delicious. Winemaker skills really show through here. Pristine and elegant.

A few days late in posting the Wednesday Wine Committee wines. Standard format with 1 sparkler, 3 whites, 4 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind. One of the better Kistlers I’ve had. Green tinged in the glass with gorgeous notes of keylime pie and crust, lemon cream, and honeysuckle. Rich and powerful on the palate...more so than most Kistlers I’ve had. Soft and round profile. Finish has a savory sea salt note. Very nice. I guessed young Kistler Chardonnay.
