95 points - limited release A fantastic small-production Cabernet from David Beckstoffer. 95 Points Antionio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2014 Kata Beckstoffer Bourn Vineyard is every bit as compelling as it was last year from barrel. A wine of striking freshness, energy and intensity, the 2014 exhibits notable freshness in its bright red cherry, plum, rose petal and mint overtones. Floral notes take on greater prominence as the wine continues to flesh out in the glass. The 2014 has really come on strong. Today, it gives the impression it could one day surpass the 2013." 94 Points Robert Parker: "This is a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the Beckstoffer-owned vineyards. This blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Petite Sirah offers delicious blackberry and cassis fruit, floral notes and a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel with terrific purity, texture and length. Like most 2014s, it is open for business and should continue to drink well for at least 10-15 years." When the Beckstoffers acquired part of the historic Bourn Vineyard in St. Helena in 2010 it was planted to eight acres of 60+ year old Petite Sirah vines and four acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. Nearly all the Petite Sirah vines have since been replanted by the Beckstoffer’s Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard sits on slightly sloping valley floor bench-land from soils drained off over thousands of years from the nearby Mayacamas Mountain range.
