One of the top-rated Cabernets of the 2016 vintage. Limited. 98 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the barrel samples, the 2016 Estate Cuvee State Lane Vineyard is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated cuvee that shows the purity of this great vintage. Textbook notes of blackcurrants, graphite, spring flowers and toasty oak notes all flow to a medium to full-bodied, pure, layered, building 2016 that has fine tannin, no hard edges, and a great finish... ...Speaking about the recent vintages, this team loves their 2016s and calls them the purest expressions of their varieties they’ve seen. These are indeed beautiful wines that seem similar to the 2014s, yet with a touch more oomph and mid-palate depth. I loved the 2015s and these are classic wines from Napa Valley that lead with their fruit, yet like all the wines from Kapcsandy, remain beautifully balanced, if not restrained in this vintage. The 2014s are drinking beautifully today, with elegant, classic, even old-world styles, and they’re going to evolve nicely as well. These are all classy, regal wines." 95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2016 Estate Cuvée has turned out beautifully. Pliant, supple and inviting, the 2016 Estate Cuvée is one of the most refined wines I have tasted from Kapcsándy. Silky tannins and lifted, savory aromatics add to an impression of polish. The Cabernet Sauvignon savory notes are quite prominent, while the addition of 16% Roberta's Merlot helps fill out the mid-palate beautifully. This is such a pretty wine." Robert Parker: "In all of my travels throughout the world I have met few producers who can match Lou Kapcsandy’s passion and total dedication to excellence. Along with his son Louis and consulting winemaker Denis Malbec, Lou Kapcsandy continues to craft exceptional wines loaded with class and pedigree. Every wine in this lineup, from the newly expanded selection of roses, to the flagship reds and the fortified wine is well worth your time."

I beg to differ on my prior rating. With some airtime, this comes into its own. Places merlot on a different level. The cab franc gives this structure and presence. No rush to consume. Nice acidity and cherry compote on the mid palate. Finished luscious and moderately sweet.
