Justin Vineyards & Winery Isosceles Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2017

$79.99

The Isosceles Cabernet blend is one of Paso Robles most sought-after wines!  Get the limited new release now. The Justin 2017 Isosceles is bright with a deep ruby core, lighter with a bit of garnet toward the rim. Rich and aromatic with dark fruit of black cherry, cassis, exotic licorice, cinnamon, and subtle vanilla spice with sweet notes of tobacco, a little cocoa and subtle toasted cedar in the background. Full bodied with black cherry and classic black currant fruit, complex brown spice of star anise, licorice with cocoa and herbal notes of sweet tobacco and a hint of eucalyptus. The rest is classic Bordeaux cabernet sauvignon - fruit, complex spice, and mineral flavors balanced with guiding structural elements on a long, memorable finish. Drink on release or wait a dozen years, this one will be ready for you. Blend: 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc, 7% Merlot ISOSCELES is the embodiment of our dream to produce a Paso Robles wine in the style of the classic chateaux of the Médoc area of Bordeaux. Each vintage of ISOSCELES drinks beautifully upon release, revealing its Paso roots, and after years in the cellar it shows the quality, complexity, and age-worthiness of the wines after which it is styled. Elegantly understated, but with impressive complexity on further examination, the new packaging for this twenty fifth vintage of ISOSCELES reflects the character of this iconic wine and continues its proud heritage.

Dark purple. Deep-pitched cassis, cherry-vanilla and pipe tobacco aromas are complemented by a building floral note and a hint of cracked pepper. Rich but energetic as well, showing solid thrust to the dark berry preserve, mocha and rose pastille flavors. Finishes on a smoky note, with strong tenacity, lingering floral oak spice character and steadily building tannins. All new French oak. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, December 2020)

The Paso Robles Cab which is standing up to the Napa latest and greatest and a young gun at that. The nose is mossy, musty with underlying fruit and spice notes. The mouthfeel is meaty, chewy, gamy almost, with a ripe fruit coating the palate, medium minus acidity, high alcohol, dry, it’s got a short finish with notes of dark chocolate and licorice… It works! Avant-garde-ly in away: hot climate Cab done right.

Now THAT'S a cab. Full, smoky, hint of spice and tannins...and just delicious.

A decent middle-of-the-road Cab, nothing more, nothing less.

Who would have thought that after all that waiting, I'd finally end up opening this bottle on a random Thursday night in December? My brother got me this bottle for my birthday back in February and I was waiting for a celebratory moment to open it, but hey, who says I can't celebrate a Thursday? Deep plum color, and almost completely opaque. Heady, subtle, deep fruit scent. Toasted oak and vanilla, black cherry, baking spice, maybe a little tobacco? Well worth the hype. Taste is smooth and soft and it gave me a little chill. Medium body, lovely tannin to balance out the beginning. I love it. Yum. Amazing.

Compared the 2017 and the 2018 with our Isosceles partners the Wilson’s. Group agreed that the ‘18 is a touch less acidic than the ‘17. But, this time I found them generally underwhelming. Blend fatigue?
