Joseph Phelps Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$74.95

Fantastic new Joseph Phelps Napa Cabernet release. 93 Points Robert Parker: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon is made up of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec and 2% Cabernet Franc aged for 18 months in 48% new French and American oak and bottled in May/June of 2018. Deep garnet-purple colored, it sings of crushed blackcurrants, blackberry pie and blueberry compote with suggestions of cigar box, menthol, rose hip tea and baking spices. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with vibrant black fruit laced with plenty of spicy sparks, framed by grainy tannins and oodles of freshness and finishing long with a menthol kick." 91 Points Wine Spectator: "Forward in style, featuring a swath of plum and blackberry preserve flavors, laced with light anise, sweet tobacco and apple wood notes. Keeps a juicy energy throughout, but this is accessible now. Drink now through 2026. 36,000 cases made."

Deep Ruby with youthful aromas of blue and black fruits with sweet spice and slight mineral character. The wine is a blend of 86% Cab Sauv, 7% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% Malbec & 2% Cab Franc from their estate-owned Napa Valley vineyards, aged 18 months in French (62%) & American oak (38%) (48% new). On the palate complex flavors, blackberry, plums and ripe cherry with sweet spice, oak and eucalyptus notes. Well balanced with good acidity and tannins still developing. Full-bodied, long finish ending with cacao and wood spice. Delightful! Tasting Sample!

Very well balanced and complete. Blueberry pie, tobacco, spice, and puckering tannins. I think this label was one of the best buys in Napa when it was $60 - $80 a bottle. I got a few vintages at Costco for $60 / bottle and stocked up. Now at $110+ I’ll just get one or two and wait as time seems to really help these.
