Fantastic new Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir release from the legendary Jospeh Phelps. 92 Points Robert Parker: "Gorgeous dark red cherries, savory herbs, licorice and mint are woven together in the 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Freestone Vineyard. Intense and rich, the 2011 is surprisingly rich for the year. Wilder, gamier notes appear later, adding complexity on the inviting finish. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021...Once again, I came away deeply impressed with the wines I tasted from Joseph Phelps and their Freestone Vineyards range. These are without question some of the most polished wines being made in the Sonoma Coast today. The 2011s, all of which I tasted from barrel, are also highly promising. The Pinots are quite savory and Syrah-like in this vintage. It will be interesting to see how they develop over the coming year."

We have had this on several occasions. It's distinctly average. It's bright and breezy, but lacks cohesion.

I really loved the 2011 vintage of this. The 2012 just isn't doing it for me. Closed on the nose, darker fruit, not as bright. Still nice but it doesn't quite have the magic of the 2011.

Robust wine. Has some well defined tannins and a very Christmas spice character. Dark fruits linger around the mid palate but overall a pleasant herbaceous offering.

Classic Sonoma Coast Pinot. Aromatic, ripe but restrained fruit with lively acidity, and a distinctly autumnal quality vis-a-vis undertones of baking spices and forest berries.
