Hirsch Vineyards East Ridge Pinot Noir 2018

$89.99

Sourced by the likes of Kistler, Williams Selyem, Flowers and Littorai-among other top California Pinot producers - the growers of the famed Hirsch Vineyard on Sonoma's Coast have been making their own Pinot Noir since 2002. Limited. 95 Points Wine Spectator: "Powerfully fresh and crunchy, with plenty of minerality to the dried cherry and berry flavors that are backed by crisp acidity. Shows cedary notes and hints of juniper berry on the lithe finish. Best from 2022 through 2027. 527 cases made." Talk about aromatics! The Hirsch Vineyards 2018 East Ridge Pinot Noir offers up cranberries, rich, ripe cherries, orange peel with a hint of gunflint provide a nose so intoxicating you are captured by tendrils of aroma. With air, the nose broadens to even deeper autumnal notes. Those who can free themselves from this spell are rewarded with an intense core of bing cherries and ripe plum with a firm acidic backbone. This is a wine built for the long haul. This big, broad, ripe but complex wine is a real rarity and a must for the complete Pinot collector.

Dinner at Val’s. The East Ridge is a topographically distinct micro-site within the Hirsch Vineyard. Two thirds of the vines on the East Ridge have phylloxera, a disease that attacks the roots and inhibits the vine’s uptake of nutrients. This results in some of the lowest yields at Hirsch. The East Ridge Pinot Noir is a powerful expression of the Hirsch Vineyard, with fantastic structure, concentration and fruit. 615 cases produced. 13.1% alc. “Translucent ruby red. Sapid, expressive nose of spiced cherry and dark raspberry with a hint of toast and bacon fat. Excellent acidity drives the wine in the mouth. The wine is tensile, focused and incisive, with a precise minerality that stays clear of harshness. Impressive depth and delineation of flavours, only slightly coiled up at moment, yet all are held in perfect balance. This is gonna be a stunner in a few years — and one that will be nearly impossible to tell apart from its Burgundian brethrens. Wow!” AC, 2017 “This offers red cherries, sous bois and sappy, earthy freshness. The palate heads more towards blue fruit with a smooth band of fine pinot tannin and beautifully preserved acidity, holding a long, mouthwatering finish.” JS 93, 2017
