Hidden Ridge 55% slope Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$59.99

This fantastic discovery comes from the Hidden Ridge Vineyard in Sonoma County. The terraced vines are on a steep mountainside in a valley with eastern, southern and northern exposures and the typical decomposed granite and alluvium soils of the Mayacamas Mountains. The vineyard experiences cool mornings and evenings and moderate temperatures during the day that allow the fruit to hang for a long time without overripening. Limited.94 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 55 Degrees Slope exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color as well as beautiful, sweet crème de cassis, Asian plum sauce, licorice and forest floor notes. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, and impressive concentration, texture and length, this superb Cabernet can be drunk early in life because of its velvety opulence or cellared for two decades...I was greatly impressed with the Hidden Ridge offerings last year, and once again their current and upcoming releases merit interest. The winemaker is Timothy Milos, and the wines come from steep slopes on the west side of Spring Mountain. The elevations range between 900 and 1,700 feet."

Can’t remember where I picked this up, but I wrote “drink in 2017” on the back!Solid, if predictable California cab. Good on this chilly night.

Stunning. Somehow manages to avoid being over extracted, yet it's huge, dark and staining. Plum, dark chocolate, bacon, and herbs. Hard for me to imagine a better pairing for steak.

My first introduction to Hidden Ridge. This wine, along with their others, have all received impressive scores (this one in particular got a 94) and I'm in agreement. Dark royal purple in the glass, and on the nose, I get a ton of plum and licorice. A voluptuous wine on the tongue...velvety tannins, brown sugar, and cocoa. This is definitely worth seeking out.

A gem of a cab. Call it 70 bucks. Delish.

My last bottle. Boycotting the more recent vintages due to egregious price increases. This was a great vintage for them. Still going strong.

One of the top mountain wine deals out there IMO. Eye watering nose with cassis and minted blueberries. Bright palate with a long leathery finish. I read on Celler Tracker that they took the price up to $100. It ain't with that, but it's a steal for the $45 I paid. Great now with a decant but has a ways to go.
