Herman Story White Hawk Vineyard Syrah 2012

$47.99

A phenomenal new release from Herman Story. Hurry while this small-production gem is still available.95 Points Robert Parker: "Another incredible Syrah, the 2012 Syrah White Hawk Vineyard was co-fermented with 2% Viognier and saw a slightly longer elevage, with 22 months in 65% new French oak. Its vibrant purple color is followed by pedal-to-the-metal notes of cassis, liquid smoke, chocolate and crushed flowers. Full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and hedonistic, it stays seamless and elegant, with superb overall balance, striking purity and a great finish. It will have decade or more of overall longevity. Unfortunately, there's only a tiny 500 cases to go around......Pulling from a number of sites spread throughout the Central Coast, Herman Story’s Russell From makes unabashedly Californian wines that make the most of the beautiful fruit that makes California so special. These are not for those craving tiny, mid-weight efforts and they have rocking textures, tons of fruit and most importantly, always remain a joy to drink. These are gorgeous wines."

The 2012 White Hawk showed incredible intensity, yet remained balanced and graceful throughout, showing a unrelenting bouquet of black cherry, baked plums, violette floral tones, cola, smoke, crushed stone and spice cake. On the palate, it was silky with sweet, spiced dark fruits, cherry sauce, and licorice. It literally saturated the senses without showing a hint of its 15.4% alc. The finish went on and on with dark fruit, spice, and purple floral tones. This is full throttle yet refined and layered—color me impressed.

2012 Vintage purchased from WineBid badly corked. Wet cardboard. Cork was not compromised nor was the wax capsule. First COVID wine fatality.

Another full throttle effort from Russell From. This is more graceful than Nuts & Bolts with slightly more polished tannins and refined structure. Wonderful! Dare I say that Russell From could be the American answer to Sparky Marquis?
