Rare release of an Napa Valley classic. Limited. 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "From a certified-organic site in Rutherford and 100% varietal, this wine has benefitted from time in the bottle, dazzling in soft silky red fruit and jolts of nutmeg and dust. Beautifully layered, structured and brightly vibrant, it has impressive coaxings of cigar, cedar and a rich hint of wild vanilla." 94 points James Suckling: "Some darker and more powerful style to this single vineyard cab that delivers abundant blackcurrant and blueberry aromas and flavors. The tannins are long and fine, really even and commanding. Beautiful balance, too. Drink or hold." In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. In 1989, we introduced our Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon--an opulent wine that consistently expresses its lineage in bold, luscious statements. Our Trailside Vineyard produces Cabernet grapes that are incredibly intense and flavorful. We try to enhance that natural bravado during our extended aging process by using new French oak barrels

This vineyard has been part of the Heitz estate since 1984, one of their three single vineyard 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 4 years in 100% new French Limousin oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe berry fruits with rustic spices. On the palate, raspberry, black cherry and blackberry flavors with vanilla, tobacco, tomato leaf and licorice notes. Full-body, fine soft tannins, long finish, nicely integrated, balanced with acidity ending with sweet earthy, nutty character. Very Nice! Tasting Sample!

1.5 hour decant(no sediment). A thrilling Rhodolite Garnet color. On the nose: Muted notes of vanilla, cherry, cinnamon, and a hint of spicy mint. Taste: A soft/rich wine with raspberry, dusty cedar, cigar box...ends with a sour cherry slightly metallic medium plus finish. Tannins let you know not fully resolved...drinks well, but give it a few more years.

This was pretty great. We also just had the ‘09 a week ago. My wife compared it to an Acura NSX: powerful enough, sleek, reliable, and always food in every situation. I would agree. ABV was not overpowering, but palate was spot on.
