Inaugural release of the new Lot C-91 from Heitz Cellars. This is an homage to Joe Heitz as the first release of this bottling since the 1969 vintage. 93 Points Wine Spectator: "Shows a perfumed note, with red tea and sandalwood hints throughout. Supple red currant, fresh Damson and cherry preserve flavors do the heavy lifting. Fine-grained and very focused on the finish, with some sneaky length to boot. Drink now through 2034." Lot C-91 is a new wine from Heitz, inspired by a very old one! In the Fall of 1969, Joe Heitz played with creating a high-end blend of small lots from some of Heitz's top single vineyard sites. He dubbed it "Lot C-91." Some 47 years later the current team at Heitz has once again taken select barrels of fruit from legendary sites such at Martha's (Oakville), Trailside (Rutherford) and Linda Falls (Howell Mtn), to create this Napa Valley "Super Cuvée." In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. In 1989, we introduced our Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon--an opulent wine that consistently expresses its lineage in bold, luscious statements. Our Trailside Vineyard produces Cabernet grapes that are incredibly intense and flavorful. We try to enhance that natural bravado during our extended aging process by using new French oak barrels

History began in 1969 when the only vintage from this legendary lot was ever produced—is a wine of outstanding authenticity tying the past to the present. Deep Ruby, aromas of berry fruits, earthy oak and floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry and cherry with hints of floral, licorice and leather. Fine dusty tannins, good acidity, well balanced, ending with fruit, floral and earthy mineral notes. Nice! Grab a NY Strip!

Another 2nd day wine with 3 hour decant. Doesn’t have that typical fruit forward nose like the Sinegal. Distinctive & on par with old school Heitz. Hopefully new ownership keeps this style. I wanted to think about this one for a minute. It came out of the bottle hot. After an hour decant, this demonstrated the beauty that is Napa. Balanced, savory, and can withstand many more years in the bottle. I want more.
