Hamilton Russell Vineyards Hemel-En-Aarde Valley Pinot Noir 2018

$49.99

Stellar new release from South Africa's finest Pinot Noir producer! Limited. previous vintage 92 Points Robert Parker:  "The Pinot Noir was a season with a long hang time with an above-average size of crop – a season with no ups and downs," Hannes Storm explained. It has a perfumed, floral bouquet with wilted rose petals infusing the red cherries, bergamot and fresh strawberry scents. The palate is clean and pixelated on the entry, adorned with a satin-like texture, extremely well-judged acidity and superb poise on the finish. This has gained a little weight over the next 12 months and while I do not think it has the substance for serious long-term aging, it is absolute charmer at this stage."

Disappointed ☹️. Forget this vintage. I am usually a fan but this one falls flat. Avoid.

Black cherry and spice, lifted aromatics. This showed as much more complex and open than the ‘17 tasted a few days earlier at a restaurant

An amazing property with even better owners. Anthony is the most knowledgeable person we met on our April 2019 trip to Stellenbosch. Not just on his property/region but, all of Stellenbosch. We spent the afternoon with him touring his property, tasting in their cellar, Anthony sharing all his knowledge and me being a sponge. Then, his wife & staff cooked us one of the most amazing lunches we’ve had paired with their beautiful wines. Quite a day. Outstanding in the craft, gracious and all class.
