Hall Wines Napa Valley Merlot 2013

$29.99

Kathryn and Craig Hall are making some of Napa Valley's best wines in their state-of-the-art winery amid the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills of Rutherford.   The Merlot is the sleeper of the vintage! An expressive duet from two of our premier estate vineyards. Merlot from our Hardester Ranch is planted in limiting soils on a hillside enclave to promote intensely concentrated small berries with tremendous structure and backbone. The cool valley-floor fruit of Napa River Ranch endows generous red fruit and a velvety texture. Anticipate an alluring nose of Bing cherry, violets, cocoa and baking spice which unrolls seamlessly on the tongue to a rich, elegant mid-palate. Expressive flavors of dark cherry, toasted oak and blackberry jam will continue to evolve for the next 5-7 years.93 Points Wine Enthusiast - 'Editors’ Choice':  “A rich, dense, vital Merlot, one of the best of the vintage. Offers loads of cherry, green olive, roasted meat and pepper flavors, wrapped into firm tannins leading to a distinguished finish. Dry and elegant, it’s a beautiful wine to decant and drink soon with steak, chops, lamb.”

HALL Wines is located in Napa Valley and employs organic small-vine viticulture and precision winemaking. A blend of 97% Merlot and 3% Malbec. Very deep red with soft berry fruit aromas, complex but not overpowering adding a touch of spice. On the palate raspberry and cherry flavors with vanilla, cacao and some oak. Needed about 45 minutes to show itself. Smooth tannins, great balance a joy to drink.

Plump and aromatic. Dark fruits and slight graphite on a full body. Very nice.

Full fruit noise, slight spice on the tail of it. Med to high alcohol with long legs in the glass. Smooth mouth feel at first and acidic on the back. Some structured tannins with a lot of dark tasting tannins on the back. This is a promising wine that will be boatloads better in a few years. I'm getting a few more bottles to keep.

Trying out this Kathryn Hall Merlot... it's pleasant, and maybe a bit bitter in the back? Cant put my finger on it. Regardless, happy to be enjoying it!

Raspberry jam, vanilla, and a touch of toasted wood on the nose. Great red fruit with a smokiness that fills but doesn't over power the palate.
