Hall Wines Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$49.99

Kathryn and Craig Hall are making some of Napa Valley's best Cabernets in their state-of-the-art winery amid the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills of Rutherford.   Get the new vintage before it sells out.94 Points Brix26:  "With its deep purple hue, the HALL Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon drives complex aromas of jammy blackberry puree, rich cassis, Asian Five-Spice and dark chocolate from the glass. The fleshy texture is both dense and opulent, the perfect platform for brawny black and briar fruit flavors that persist through the velvety, enduring finish. This wine will continue to gain complexity and grace for 5-10 years." previous vintage 95 Points Robert Parker:  "The Cabernet Sauvignon is another huge wine. Despite its size, it possesses silky tannins and great concentration of fruit. Blackberries, blueberries, spices and suave tannins provide the backdrop for this extroverted, striking Cabernet Sauvignon. In a decidedly opulent style, with hints of sweetness on the finish, this is yet another intriguing wine. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030... ...This is a thrilling set of wines from Hall. The estate favors a rich, extroverted style, yet all of these wines have distinct personalities and tons of sheer character. Meticulous viticulture followed by native yeast fermentations, slow, natural malos and minimal rackings are at the heart of the approach at Hall. The wines are aged in French oak (mostly Taransaud, 40-90% new) and are bottled with no fining or filtration. Readers who appreciate the more opulent side of Napa Valley will find much to admire here. Simply put, I was blown away by what I tasted.

Last ‘12 in my cellar! Blend of 97% Cab Sauv, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cab Franc, aged for 20 months in French oak (55% new), deep Ruby with aromas of dark dried fruit with notes of floral and spices. An ideal growing season in 2012, the palate shows dense ripe dark berry fruit with a touch of leather, cinnamon, espresso, mushroom and cacao. Well integrated with fine structured tannins, the wine is complex yet enjoyable, aged well still has room to run. Long finish ending with ripe fruits and oak.

It is Sunday evening and the first wine we have opened is the 2012 Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This was a gift from one of my life long friends that is here in Palm Springs. The nose has notes of black fruit, black cherry, blackberry, cassis, oak and a mineral note although a bit on the weak side. On the palate the black fruit is prominent with black cherry, blackberry, some licorice, vanilla, smoky oak and earth notes. The wine is medium to full bodied with medium acidity, medium smooth tannins, a very drinkable wine right now. The weekend is at an end and the workweek is upon us. Have a great week and please be safe. Nostrovia!

Ripe black fruits dominate the nose mixed with some tobacco leaves and dark chocolate. Very high acidity and dry. A little bit lean for me but still a very solid wine. 2012 vintage

This afternoon we are enjoying a nice Cabernet from Kathryn Hall. Nose is very expressive with notes of blackberry jam, currant, licorice and a nice smokey oak. On the palate gives notes of black cherry, blackberry, currant, black pepper and a slight spice. Has a medium acidity, medium tannins with a good round mouth feel with a long pleasing finish.
