Hall Wines Kathryn Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$199.99

Rare reserve Cabernet from Hall - made in small quantities. 97 Points Robert Parker:  "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall sashays out of the glass with beguiling notions of warm black and red currants, fresh blackberries, black raspberries and boysenberries with touches of rose hip tea, forest floor, pencil shavings and violets. Full-bodied with a taut foundation of firm, fine-grained tannins and bags of freshness, it has layer upon layer of perfumed black and red fruits, finishing long and fragrant... ...Kathryn Hall’s winery is certainly one of the more dramatic as well as up-and-coming superstars of Napa Valley. It seems every effort is made to propel these wines into the very top echelon of quality. There is not a lot to criticize with the multitude of bottlings, all of which offer considerable character and appeal." 96 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is also gorgeous. Currants, cassis, spring flowers, and hints of underbrush all emerge from this full-bodied, opulent and seamless barrel sample that has richness with no weight, fine tannin, and stunning purity of fruit. It much more approachable than the 2015 but should age gracefully as well." HALL “Kathryn Hall” Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the choicest fruit from our finest estate vineyard blocks and extraordinary mountain fruit from our select vineyard partners. Through a mélange of varietals and terroir, this wine has transcended into a symphonic Bordeaux cuvée. Fruit from our renowned Sacrashe vineyard dominates the blend. The captivating voice of the Sacrashe vineyard, with its restrictive volcanic ash soils, high elevation and undulating aspects define the soul of this wine.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Kathryn Hall is a rich, dense wine. Dark red and purplish berry fruit, spice, lavender and new leather all flesh out in an ample, creamy Cabernet Sauvignon endowed with tremendous textural resonance. This is one of the more expressive wines in the range. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2020)

The 2016 'Kathryn Hall' Cabernet Sauvignon is a show-stopping wine from winemaker Steve Levesque. Composed of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot with the core fruit sourced from a barrel selection from the Sacrashe Vineyard. Simply captivating, this opens to inviting aromas of ripe dark currants and blueberry compote that collide with violets, tar and shades of sweet pipe tobacco that all sing in the glass. On the palate this is soft and plush, with beautifully round polished tannins and a gorgeous seamless quality, as well as wonderful weight that truly entices. It continues to deliver layers complex flavors including blueberry compote, leather, mocha, creosote and shades of Asian spices that all build up to the long multidimensional finish. While a delight in its youth, the 2016 'Katheryn Hall' Cabernet Sauvignon should also go on to provide enjoyment for twenty years. Drink 2020-2038- 97

The 2016 Kathryn Hall is deep ruby in color with enticing aromas of cassis, violets, cacao, anise and black tea. This powerful vintage sets the stage for a full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with layered notes of dark plum, ripe blackberry, anise, pine needle and violet. The firm tannins are well integrated and provide a structured backbone to this opulent wine.

As a 2016 as a strong rose it's barely sustainable in off the nose and on the front and balanced to the end.
