Groth Vineyards & Winery Reserve Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$299

One of the top Napa Cabernets of the 2008 vintage, the Groth 2012 Reserve Cab is a classic. Delicious now but a great cellar candidate as well. Limited Magnum.96 Points Wine Enthusiast: "A huge Cabernet, in the best sense of the word. It wasn’t the easiest vintage, as 2007 was, but meticulous winemaking did the job, resulting in this amazingly rich, impressively ripe wine that’s drinkable now and will develop for many years. The fruits veer toward blackberries, cherries and cola, and the tannins are soft and refined. One hundred percent new French oak isn’t at all heavy, lending nuances of buttered toast and sweet wood tannins. Will easily age for 15 years."This is a Magnum (1.5L) bottle

Well balanced and inviting. Black fruits, blackberry, leather, smoke, well integrated tannins, everything you love in a Napa cabernet. This wine is great, not exceptional. Long finish that invites you back for more. My impression is mid term aging as opposed to long term.

Big and juicy, as expected. A bit hot. Not my style but the table liked it.

Dark and inky. The wine is sweet and at the same time earthy. That may be the heat. The oak is nicely integrated and not overwhelming. Cali cabs are not my go to, but this one is very nice. Much more subtle than I expected.

2012. Birfday-eve called for an ode to personal growth/groth. The first bottle opened was the 2011 Groth cab, and it sadly went down the drain. The 2012 was beautiful- perfect tannins, glass and mouth coating, not a bad way to say goodbye to 42.
