Groth Vineyards & Winery Oakcross 2020

$109.99

A new wine from Groth based around Cabernet Sauvignon (78%) with smaller amounts of Merlot (20%) and Petit Verdot (2%). The wine is a very small production of just 500 6pk cases. It was aged in 70% new French oak for 22 months. "Oakcross" was the original name of this estate when it was planted in 1973 prior to being purchased in 1981 by Dennis and Judy Groth. 94 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "A new wine in this range, the Groth Cabernet Sauvignon Oakcross is a blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Merlot adds mid-palate sumptuousness to this gorgeous Oakville red blend. Silky and racy to the core, but with plenty of tannins to support it all, the Oakcross has a ton to offer. Dark plum, espresso, licorice, spice and cedar linger nicely." 93 Points James Suckling: "Black fruit, chocolate, cedar and dried spices on the nose. Medium-to full-bodied with fine tannins and fresh acidity. Balanced, with delicious chocolate-cherry character and a chalky texture. A blend of 49% merlot, 47% cabernet sauvignon and 4% petit verdot." Groth Winery sits on the 121-acre Oakcross Vineyard planted by Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan of Silver Oak in the heart of the Oakville appellation. This prime Cabernet Sauvignon land serves owner Dennis Groth and winemaker Michael Weis well as they fashion some of Napa Valley's best Cabernets.
